Getting Started
How does coverage work?
Every Texas business has federal and state filing requirements — franchise tax, sales tax, unemployment insurance, and more. ComplyTX loads these automatically at signup. Businesses in Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, and Austin also get local requirements matched. Everywhere else — add yours once, we manage them forever.
How does ComplyTX work?
Texas businesses juggle federal, state, and local deadlines across multiple agencies — the Comptroller, TWC, county offices, and more. ComplyTX pulls your requirements based on your business type and location, then sends reminders before anything's due.
What if my business is outside the 4 major metros?
Federal and state requirements like franchise tax and TWC reporting apply to every Texas business regardless of location. ComplyTX loads those automatically. For local requirements outside the 4 metros, add them once — same reminders, same Digital Vault, same audit trail.
How long does setup take?
Most Texas businesses have 10–20 overlapping deadlines across federal, state, and local agencies. ComplyTX maps them in under 5 minutes — answer a few questions about your location, industry, and permits, and your dashboard builds itself.
What information do I need to get started?
Texas filing requirements depend on your entity type (LLC, corp, sole prop), business address, and active permits. Have your TABC license number or food service permit handy if you hold one. ComplyTX uses these to match your specific requirements.
How does ComplyTX know which deadlines apply to me?
Every Texas business has a unique set of requirements based on entity type, industry, location, and permits held. ComplyTX matches federal and state deadlines automatically. Local requirements load for the 4 metros. Everything else you add once.
Which Texas cities have local auto-matching?
Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, and Austin each have city- and county-level requirements — things like Harris County property tax or City of Dallas permits. ComplyTX auto-matches these at signup. For other Texas cities, add local requirements once and they're tracked forever.
General
What types of businesses does ComplyTX serve?
Texas businesses across every industry — restaurants, retail, professional services, healthcare — all share a core set of federal and state requirements. ComplyTX tracks them all, with full local auto-matching in Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, and Austin.
What deadlines does ComplyTX track?
Texas businesses face 80+ possible requirements: franchise tax, sales tax, TWC unemployment insurance, property tax, TABC renewals, health permits, food handler certs, grease trap inspections, and more. ComplyTX matches the ones that apply to your business based on entity type, industry, and location.
How accurate are the compliance dates?
Texas compliance deadlines change when state, county, or municipal agencies update their regulations — sometimes with little notice. ComplyTX sources dates directly from government websites and monitors for changes automatically. For complex legal or tax questions, we recommend consulting a licensed professional.
What's the difference between ComplyTX and hiring a bookkeeper?
Bookkeepers handle your financials — payroll, reconciliation, tax prep. But compliance deadlines like TABC renewals, health permits, and franchise tax often fall between what the bookkeeper tracks and what the owner assumes is handled. ComplyTX fills that gap.
Can I use ComplyTX for businesses outside of Texas?
Every state has its own compliance requirements, and right now ComplyTX only covers Texas — that's where our depth lives. Expansion to other states is on the roadmap.
Ask Teddy (AI Assistant)
What is Ask Teddy?
Texas compliance questions — "When is my franchise tax due?" "Do I need a food manager cert in Harris County?" — usually mean digging through government websites. Ask Teddy is an AI assistant built into ComplyTX that answers these instantly, tailored to your entity type, location, and permits.
How accurate is Ask Teddy?
Texas regulations change across state, county, and city levels, making accuracy critical. Ask Teddy's answers are based on verified Texas regulations and your specific business profile. For complex legal or tax questions, confirm with a licensed professional.
Can Ask Teddy file documents for me?
Texas filings must be submitted directly to each agency — the Comptroller, TABC, county clerk, etc. Ask Teddy answers questions and provides guidance, but doesn't submit on your behalf. ComplyTX gives you the exact links to file when deadlines approach.
Is Ask Teddy available on all plans?
Yes. Ask Teddy is included on every ComplyTX plan — Pro, Pro Restaurant, and Agency.
Reminders & Alerts
How do reminders work?
Texas deadlines hit at different intervals — franchise tax is annual, sales tax can be monthly or quarterly, TABC renewals vary by license type. ComplyTX lets you set reminders 7, 14, 30, or 45 days before each one. Email alerts on all plans, SMS on Agency. If you miss one, overdue escalation kicks in automatically.
Can I customize reminder timing?
Different filings need different lead times — franchise tax requires prep weeks in advance, while a grease trap cleaning just needs a few days' notice. ComplyTX lets you set different reminder windows for each deadline type.
What if I miss a deadline?
Most Texas filings allow late submission with a penalty — for example, late franchise tax incurs a 5% penalty plus interest. ComplyTX continues to alert you after a deadline passes, shows the penalty amount, and helps you understand next steps.
Do you send SMS alerts?
SMS alerts are included on the Agency plan — useful for firms managing multiple clients with overlapping deadlines. Pro and Pro Restaurant include email alerts. You can opt in or out of SMS at any time on Agency.
Restaurants & Food Service
Is ComplyTX only for restaurants?
Texas food service businesses — restaurants, food trucks, catering companies, bars — all face the same layers of permits, health requirements, and TABC licensing. ComplyTX tracks all of them, not just restaurants.
What food service deadlines do you track?
Texas food service operators juggle TABC renewals, health permits, food handler certs, food manager certs, grease trap inspections, fire alarm permits, plus standard sales tax and franchise tax. ComplyTX tracks all of these, with local restaurant requirements auto-matched in Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, and Austin.
How do you know my specific restaurant deadlines?
Every Texas restaurant has a unique mix of permits — TABC, health, food manager, fire — each with its own renewal cycle. At setup, you enter your active permits and ComplyTX extracts the expiration dates. Local restaurant deadlines load automatically in the 4 metros.
Do you track TABC license renewals?
A lapsed TABC license can mean up to $1,000 in penalties and a suspended license. ComplyTX tracks Mixed Beverage permits, Wine and Beer Retailer permits, and other TABC license types with reminders before renewal deadlines.
What about grease trap inspections?
Houston PWD requires regular grease trap cleaning for food service establishments, and other metros have similar rules. ComplyTX tracks your cleaning schedule and reminds you before inspections are due.
Do you actually file the paperwork for me?
Texas filings go directly to each agency — TABC, the Comptroller, your county health department. ComplyTX tells you what to file, when, and where. You handle the filing, then upload your confirmation to the Digital Vault for your records.
What if I open a 2nd restaurant location?
Each Texas restaurant location has its own set of county, city, and maintenance requirements. ComplyTX's Pro Restaurant plan covers up to 4 locations — each gets its own deadlines matched automatically. Need more? Agency covers up to 50.
Multi-Location & Team Access
Do you support multi-location businesses?
Multi-location Texas businesses face different county and city requirements at each address — Harris County rules differ from Dallas County, for example. ComplyTX supports up to 4 locations on Pro, up to 50 on Agency, each with its own matched requirements.
What if my locations are in different cities?
A business in Houston and another in Lubbock face the same federal and state requirements but completely different local ones. ComplyTX auto-matches local requirements for locations in the 4 metros. Other locations — add commitments once and they run forever.
What if I have locations outside Houston?
Federal and state requirements like franchise tax and TWC reporting apply at every Texas location. Local requirements vary by city and county. ComplyTX auto-matches local requirements in the 4 metros. For other locations, add them once — tracked identically.
Can my bookkeeper or CPA access my account?
Texas business owners often split compliance work between themselves and their bookkeeper or CPA, which creates gaps. ComplyTX lets you invite them as users so everyone sees the same dashboard and can upload evidence.
Pricing & Plans
How much does ComplyTX cost?
A single missed franchise tax filing can cost hundreds in penalties and interest. ComplyTX Pro is $150/year for up to 4 locations. Pro Restaurant is $249/year and adds food service, health, and maintenance tracking. Agency is for CPA firms managing multiple clients.
Can I change plans later?
Yes. Upgrade or downgrade anytime from your billing dashboard. Upgrades take effect immediately, downgrades at the end of your current billing period.
What happens if I exceed my location limit?
You'll be prompted to upgrade when you try to add more locations than your plan allows. Your existing locations and data remain safe.
What happens if I cancel?
You keep access through the end of your billing period. After that, your dashboard and reminders stop. Your uploaded records in the Digital Vault remain available for download for 30 days after cancellation.
Filing & Compliance
Does ComplyTX file my documents for me?
Texas filings must be submitted directly to the relevant agency — the Comptroller for franchise tax, TABC for license renewals, your county for property tax. ComplyTX tracks deadlines and tells you exactly where to file, but you handle the submission.
Can ComplyTX help me during an audit?
When a Texas agency audits your business, they want to see proof of filings, permits, and inspections — organized and accessible. ComplyTX's Digital Vault stores receipts, permits, and confirmations so you can export everything in one place.
How often is compliance data updated?
Texas state, county, and municipal agencies update regulations throughout the year, sometimes with little public notice. ComplyTX monitors government websites regularly and updates your timeline automatically when changes affect your business.
What are the penalties for missing deadlines?
Penalties vary by filing type — late franchise tax is 5% plus interest, a lapsed TABC license can mean up to $1,000 and suspension, and missed health permits can shut down operations. ComplyTX sends escalating reminders so nothing gets to that point.
Security & Technical
Is my data secure?
Business compliance data includes permit numbers, filing history, and financial details that need protection. ComplyTX uses SOC 2 Type II compliant infrastructure with encryption in transit and at rest. We never share your data with third parties without your explicit consent.
Who can see my compliance data?
Only you and anyone you invite to your account — like a bookkeeper or CPA. ComplyTX staff may access data for support purposes, but we don't sell or share your information.
What devices can I use ComplyTX on?
Compliance deadlines don't wait until you're at your desk. ComplyTX works on any device with a web browser — desktop, laptop, tablet, or smartphone — so you can check your dashboard on the go.
Do you have a mobile app?
Not yet, but it's on our roadmap. The web app works on mobile browsers, and you'll receive email alerts on all plans and SMS alerts on Agency directly to your phone.
Can I export my compliance data?
Accountants, auditors, and lenders often need to see your compliance history. ComplyTX lets you export your timeline and filing history as PDF or Excel anytime.
